My husband and I have been discussing raising chickens for years and with the recent purchase of a new home, have decided the time is right to begin our chicken "family."

We will be converting a shed/garage that already exists on the property into a chicken coop. We have done much research over the past few months, plus a coworker of mine has been raising chickens for years and she has been a great source of information, and while we are certainly much more knowledgeabe than we were 6 months ago, we realize we still have much to learn. That's where you all come in! LOL..seriously though, this forum seems a great place for information, advice and just generally sharing a passion/love for chickens. The latter is probably the best part since we are so excited over this, we can hardly think of or talk about anything else! And its certainly not as much fun to talk chickens with people who don't share your enthusiasm. :)
See, I'm rambling already

Let me end by saying we are so excited to have found this forum and look forward to getting to know many of you and learning much from your experience, gathering advice and ideas as well as sharing what we learn as we go along.
Take Care.

Welcome to the enabler site on chickens. There are lots of people here that will help you with any questions and encourage to get more chickens along the way.

It's great to hear you're doing your homework, that always helps.

Have fun!!

Hi there! I'm in Essex and I'll be taking this BackYard Chickens class: http://www.codmanfarm.org/index.html but if you are looking for chicks NOW tomorrow they are putting in a McMurray order! All that chirping loveliness could be yours in days! LOL

I just joined a week ago, so you're the first I've ever welcomed! Welcome Welcome!

Thanks Brooke! I didn't know they had classes...great idea. We're trying to hold off (its tough..lol) till April or May to get chicks, we won't be in our new house till the end of March, so we'll need some time to get everything together. Would LOVE to get them today, but patience is a virtue...so they say...lol
