Hi all. I'm new here.

My first chicks are hatching today. It's day 22 and I googled "How long does it take a baby chick to dry after hatching?" and it led me to your forum.
Welcome!!!

You do not need to wait until they are fully dried. I take them out after an hour. I immediately put them in the brooder afterwards to fully dry.

I was a little worried about opening the incubator during the hatch (5 to go) but I think that's mostly alarmists talking. I really don't think the time it takes me to pull the baby out will dry out the other eggs to a point where it will cause problems.

Yeah, they will be fine. Just be quick about it.
