In the Brooder
So happy to find this site again and actually join. I have had a few chickens for 2 years. I live in the depth of a historical area of the city but lucky The city allows us 5 hens , no roos and have to get neighbors permission if coop closer to 50 feet. I have great neighbors and they love the eggs so all is good.
Have had one hen killed by what we suspect is a racoon after seeing a few eggs eaten in the coop. I just found three eggs eaten ( shells left clean as a whistle). Now I am worried about my three hens that are in the coop. does anyone know how to keep racoons away from the coop? I left the door open that night will never happen again. Beginners mistake!!
I also had a heck of a time with introducing the new chicks last year to the two I had at the time. Took forever!! plan to put up a dog kennel with a house this year and then using the pen to extend the free space in the coop.
I have one ,Ameraucana one buff orpington and one black sexed hen . Just got two baby Ameraucana and looking forward to see how they color out.
Looking also to find two silkies for a friend of mine, any ideas?
