I’m very new to chickens and in my prepping research, BYC popped up quite frequently. Because I was learning, I didn’t want a lot to start with so I settled on purchasing 6 from a nearby TSC and they are a little over a year old now.
So far, all have survived, although I had a few scares and uncertainties, this forum has been very helpful. I finally have a question of my own and so here I am.
My chickens are all sex linked (2 golden comets, 2 black sex linked, 2 amberlink).
Aside from the eggs we get, I believe they have provided good nutrients for our garden. Their coop and run is adjacent to the garden, and I let them in there when nothing has been planted yet. They are also quite entertaining.
I have lived in the city for majority of my life but my heart was more country. In compromising with my spouse, we settled in a country-like town with the city a few miles away just 2 years ago. Then came the garden and then the chickens. Oh yea and there was a new baby too! We also have a dog. It’s now a 10:1 female to male ratio in this household. Fun times!
I am employed in the health sector and I enjoy my work. But I love home. My home is my vacation.
