Hello all! My name is Michele and I am married with 3 children and live in Southeast Texas. I have wanted to raise chickens and live on a farm since I was potty trained. I spent 5 years trying to convince my husband that we needed chickens for fresh eggs. I threw every angle at him, like "wait and see how much better my cooking will taste" to "we can't survive without chickens" as my last desperate attempt ... well, he finally gave in and we built a coop and started with a flock of 8 Buff Orpingtons. I live within city limits and followed all of the ordinances to a tee. And you know what, I have even caught my husband in the coop playing with the chickens (but he will deny it if you ask him). I still haven't made it yet to owning a small farm, but I haven't given up and decided I'll start with chickens for now. Now 3 years later, I own 18 chickens ... 7 Buffs, 4 Rhode Island reds, 6 Dominique's and 1 Australorp. I get more eggs than I need for my family a week so I sell my extras. I love sitting on the porch siping my coffee in the morning and watching them forage around in the yard. Never gets old gathering eggs. Every time I open the nest boxes, i'm like a little girl on Christmas morning opening presents.I look forward to finding great advice for raising chickens from all of y'all. Thanks for having me!
