I am picking up my new babies..this is my first time raising chickens ... So excited I have 5 day old chicks coming in a couple hours.. They r Cochin's... How old do they get before they start laying eggs?

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined! It depends on the breed....I have a cochin hen, but I got her as a adult, so I really don't know exactly. Most breeds start laying between 5-7 months.

Hi and welcome to our community!

So glad you could join BYC! Good luck with with your soon-to-be chicks! Cochins are wonderful birds. I've kept some bantam Cochins in the past and really enjoyed their sweet temperaments. Cochins usually start laying around 6 months or so. Once my Cochins started laying, they laid pretty well, for bantams. Cochins do go broody often, so you won't get a lot of eggs from them. Each of my bantams went broody at least twice, though I never let them hatch any eggs.

Welcome to our flock and good luck with your new Cochins! I hope you enjoy BYC as much as we do.
