Hi everyone im new, i need help calculating how much construction sand i need for my 13×16 coop.

Greetings & Salutations. Welcome.

Where are you located? We have mostly straw and pine shavings. We have poop boards under the roosts to gather the manure for the garden. It's easier for me to scrap the dropping into a container, while standing, than to bend over. I used deep litter method, the first year prior to the boards and would fluff it 3x a week. I prefer the boards.

Sand Calculator: area 208 sq' = 2.568 cubic yards/ almost 3 tons.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Zero. You can never get all the poop out of the sand, it won't cushion landings very well and will add a lot of weight.

Have you considered installing poop boards instead? If you also install an attach predator proof run with a solid roof you will have very little poop in the coop litter as, as soon as the birds come off the roost in the morning they head out to the run. I have my coop/run set up this way and it's extremely easy to maintain. I scoop the boards every morning which takes about 5 minutes. I clean the coop out once a year.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

We've used horse bedding pellets for the better part of a decade in all of our coops. Much cheaper, cleaner, lighter, and WAY more absorbative, with zero maintenance, albeit once a year. It eliminates odors as well so the coops don't stink.

We're glad you're here!
