Hi everyone! New here and new to chickens, in New Orleans, LA

Do you have dobermans with your chickens?
Bella, the girl in my avatar, is Dobie number 6 for me. All adopted.
She is far too interested in the chickens to allow her near them. My min pin would be the worst but my dad's rat terrier isn't to be trusted either! I keep my flock behind poultry netting. I fenced off about 1/3 acre and charge the fence with 10,000 volts. All three dogs have taken a hit and suddenly, none of them are the least bit interested in my birds any longer!

Bella is gorgeous! Brock is our first dobie and rescue and has been such a blessing...they are an amazing breed!
He was pecked on the nose twice while trying to say hi when we were carrying them to the pen. That seemed to terrify him and cause him to pout off both times! Now he pays them no mind and kind of seems protective of them...checking up on them if they seem distressed sometimes.
He is inside most of the day and we still don't let him out alone when they are out in the yard, just to be safe. So far, so good. :)

I've had Dobies for nearly 25 years, as many as three at one time. They are an incredible breed. They are very sensitive and get their "feelings hurt" easily.
Dobies are naturally protective of their families so if Brock looks at the flock as part of his family, he will protect them.
My dogs stay inside too. I run them for about an hour every day and they go out regularly for potty breaks but I don't just leave them outside. They'd get into trouble without much effort!

So glad you said that...it does seem like he has made them part of his family!! What a breed!!! He amazes us constantly, we have loved every minute of our 4 years with him.
He was abandoned and left for dead when he was just over a year old. The rescue here took him in and did an incredible job nursing him back to health. We were lucky to get him...so sweet and smart and the most loving dog we have ever owned. He is the dog version of my husband...the two of them are inseparable. And yes, he so does get his "feelings hurt" to the point where I feel bad correcting him on a bad behavior!!
Wonderful dogs! Great to hear from someone who has had long time experience with them :)
