(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am not new to chickens overall, most of my family has had them since before I was born. I have many great chicken memories growing up! But these are my first “sole-ownership” chickens. The expense and WORRY are all my own, now. 😂

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Four beautiful, lovely, and many times hilarious girls that are about 23-24,weeks old.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Supposedly four Golden Comets, but 2 are quite red. I love them equally. :)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Companionship and entertainment. I’m not even kidding. We moved off-grid in August and bought them at the end of September at ~5 weeks old. They keep me company lol Watching them grow and their different personalities cracks me up. I probably spend more time in the run than a sane person should.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Motorcycle riding both on and off-road. We both used to race (roadracing courses), my husband did so professionally for 23 years. I enjoy dancing (Ballet) and playing violin. Kayaking when it’s warm. That’s about it these days. We used to engage in a lot of extreme sports (skydiving, BASE jumping, street luge) but the older you get, you calm down.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Married to my soulmate, he has two children, twins, who are 15. They visit only a few times a year though as they live out of state and, well, COVID :(. I do not have children of my own, that ship has sailed. I’m thankful to have my step kids! We have three cats, all rescues since kittens. They are 19, 15 and my newest is a little over a year old. We live in california, offgrid, in Paicines. For now.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
We sometimes cared for my last landlord’s chickens who had mites. Enough to when you went to get the eggs you came back in the house and had no less than 15-20 visible bugs crawling on your hands and the eggs. So research for that allowed me to find BYC ;)

I had also been researching how much room to give each chicken, plus the best feed, bedding etc for my own chickens-to-be and had been lurking. Whenever I wanted to know something, I came here. I finally posted when the temp dropped And my chickens were wet and I was panicking they might die. They were fine ;)

Thsnk you for such a wonderfully, informative and friendly forum. Please excuse typos I may have missed as I type with my one thumb on my old iPhone.
