Hi I am new to BYC and I am hoping that I find all my answers on here. I am new to having chickens, but it has been fun having them and raising them. I just want to say hi to everyone but I do have one question y'all will think I'm crazy but I'm wondering when do hens start to lay? we have a roo and 2 hens. Thank you all! I really like this website, so I decide to join and now I can have help as I raise my chickens. Thanks everyone!

Most breeds will begin to lay at 6-7 months of age, though some may lay as early as 5.

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice and links already. A reddening of the wattle, comb and face, combined with submissive squatting are some of the signs that they are thinking about getting ready to lay.
