I've been wanting chickens for forever and I've done a ton of research, but never felt knowledgeable enough to feel good about keeping them alive. But then I said what the heck and finally pulled the trigger and got chicks.
I stopped by the feed store just to look and it must have been fate, because they had the exact breeds that I wanted. I got two silkies, one black and one buff, and one buff Orpington pullet.
I found out about backyard chickens from googling on how to sex my chicks. Apparently I got the two most difficult breeds to tell apart the sexes at young ages. Go figure.
I am a cake decorator by trade, but might go back to school to pursue an art degree. I also do muay Thai kickboxing. But as of late my job has been just to sit outside with my chickens so they aren't cooped up all day. My dog, Tegan, likes to lay outside with me to help watch the chickens. I think she'd rather play with them though, but she knows she's not allowed, so she lays and sulks. And my 3 cats like to sit by the window and longingly watch them from inside, preparing their attack.
