Welcome to Backyard Chickens, the pulse beat of the chicken community. Wow, Alberta has some very severe weather. What breed of chickens are you getting? Chanticleers were bred to survive the climate and have flat laying combs that are more frostbite resistant.
These first ones are coming from our local hutterite colony, but I am researching heritage breeds that do well in the cold for when I am ready to grow my flock.
