Hello!

My Wife and I are going to start a new Backyard flock of Chickens for Eggs! We are 100% new to this. We are trying to collect information so we will be successful.

Our plan is to get 3 or 4 full size Egg producing Pullet Chickens to start our Flock.

A "Snap Lock Standard Coop" has been ordered from Tractor Supply.

Now we are now looking for a "Run" that gives them the needed room.

Feeder(s) & Water's are something we need to get too.

We want to "do it right the first time"! Money is an issue but... buy once, cry once if it makes a big difference.

Minnesota weather is a factor too. Very cold winters and hot/humid summers will come into play.

Thank you in advance for your time and input moving forward!

Best regards,

Willie

Welcome to Backyard Chickens Willie great to have you all here
Great choice to pre plan hardware cloth not chicken wire .. about 4 sq ft of space per
bird lots of ventilation birds are pretty weather tolerant with the above mentioned there is a great coop section here

I have the large snap lock coop - got a good deal on Craigslist. I keep several seramas in mine and they have the entire back yard to free range in during the day. A full size chicken wii have its head up where the vents are, so rather than ventilation in the winter, you have drafts. You may be able to minimize the problem by surrounding the coop up to the top with hay bales or something similar. Welcome to BYC and enjoy your new chickens when they arrive.
