Answers: Yes if they like it. and Eggs, depends on the breed of chickens

Hello, you have a very smart girl friend. Welcome to back Yard Chickens. I have no clue about eggs changing color- I have never seen that happen. Maybe someone else will have a better answer. You should eat the okra- it is good for you. But if you are not going to eat it maybe the chickens will. I would suspect you would have to cook it first - that stuff is pretty tough uncooked. Chickens can be as picky as people. I have one that loves Bananas, and some that will not eat a banana.- and none of mine will eat left over spagetti sauce or salsa. Go figure.

Howdy Andy! Welcome to Backyard Chickens! Yes, you can feed okra to chickens. Eggs do NOT change color. A chicken lays the color egg it lays and no other color. A blue egg layer will not lay a white egg and vice versa. Sometimes the shade of the egg may be a little lighter or darker, but the color does not change. With 7, how do you know who is laying which egg anyway, unless to stand out with them and watch them all day! By the way a blue egg is blue all the way through the shell, when you crack it open the inside of the shell is blue. Same for a white egg, white inside and out. A brown egg is only brown on the outside. It's white on the inside. The brown is what is called a "bloom" and does not permeate the shell like blue color does! Dazzle your girlfriend with that bit of knowledge, and she will think you are a genius! I'm glad you are here!

:welcome
