Hi! My name is Caroline and I live in the great state of Indiana!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens 5 years ago when my husband and I got married. Funny thing was, I was totally opposed to the idea of having chickens. Now I wouldn't have it any other way!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
46 full sized layers, 3 beautiful roosters, 9 bantams, and an undisclosed amount of chicks I've raised from incubation
(3) What breeds do you have?
Isa Brown, Easter Egger, Golden Comet, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Black Jersey giant, White Brahma, Swedish Flower Hens, Cochin Bantam, Black Tailed White Japanese Bantam, and mixed Bantams.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I LOVE their personalities! And of course, the eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I knit, crochet, and can!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I also raise rabbits and hair sheep! I have a Rottweiler and several barn cats (currently 6 but people tend to dump them out on our road so that number varies quite often). I have 2 children and an amazing husband!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Oh my, I believe I found BYC when I first got chickens, but I've really been researching through the forums for feeding questions and general wellness questions a lot more in the past few months! I finally decided it was time to join in on the fun!
