Bonnes Chick
Chirping
Hello! I'm excited to be here. I am a new Chicken Mama who finally convinced my husband last spring to build me a coop, went to the local farm supply store and got 6 sweet baby chicks: 2 Golden Sexlinks, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Light Brahma and 2 mixed Bantams. We enjoyed watching them grow and change. We now have 5 girls: 1 Golden Sexlink, 1 Light Brahma, 1 Lavender Oprington, 1 Silver laced Wynadotte and 1 Ameracauna X. Its amazing to me the different personalities of each bird. Some are all business, some inquisitive, some super nervous and others just chill.
I grew up on a cattle ranch but never experienced chickens. My family consists of my husband and myself, a blended family of 2 boys and 3 girls ages 28 - 12yrs. Only the 12 yr old is left at home so he is learning right along with me. We also have 2 dogs, a German Shepard (Chet) and an Akita (Noki).
This last year has been a real learning experience. I had no idea what raising healthy chickens would entail, but early on found this site and have learned so much just from reading the questions and conversations here. So today I decided I had skulked around reading in the back ground long enough. I am still trying to figure things out with raising my girls and this seems like a good place to learn how.
