Hi, glad to meet you. Assuming you want chickens for eggs and pets, you probably would do real well with Easter Eggers, Australorps, or Orpingtons (this link is to Buff Orpington, but they come in other colors as well). They all tend to be calm and friendly birds that lay well. Rhode Island Reds lay really well, but their temperament varies a lot - some are very friendly, while others are bossy and pushy. There is also a split where there is a heritage breed of Rhode Island Red that lays somewhat less, and grows slower, and a more modern breed. Read the link to know more.
