Our family started with 7 hens last year around this same time, and we are adding to our flock. We were just going to get 3 more to make an even 10... but you know how chicken math goes. We will end up with 16 once our new additions arrive. Technically 2 are bantam so they only equal one chicken, right?! We also have 3 very messy but cute ducks.

Our current flock includes one Rhode Island red (Pumpkin), two California Tans (Goose and Pickle), two Gold Laced Wyandottes (Taser Face and Fancy Pants), and two Barred Rocks (Willow and Cricket). You can tell which one my husband named.

The new babies we are getting: two Frizzled Sapphire Jewel, one Easter Egger, one dealer's choice, two Splash Polish, one Gold Laced Polish, one Splash Americauna bantam, and one black Silkie bantam.

We have four children, three of whom play competitive soccer, so we are quite busy! We have two dogs, one Bearded Dragon, and one Cockatiel to round out the menagerie. I work full time as a software analyst and my husband is a substitute teacher and recovering professional coach (LOL).

I have known about BYC for a long time, and browse the forums all the time, so I figured it was time to join.

Hello and welcome! I started with 10 chickens and now have 40 spread across 4 coops and we now do chicken shows and are officially chicken crazy lol. I mainly have bantams (Cochins, satins, silkies, policies, and D'uccles). I breed D'uccles and just got a splash polish hen to breed with my white capped black rooster! Frizzle are adorable and my frizzled calico cochin is one of my favorites! Hope you learn lots while here!
