I'm so excited to have found BYC. We just got 5 ladies this last weekend (4 Rhode Island reds and one Barred Rock) and they are already laying for us. This is unbelievably exciting for me as we are like a little farm in the middle of a big city! My reason for finding this site was because it is getting cold here in Texas and I wanted to make sure they were safe, happy and healthy!

Chickens tolerate cold quite well. There are folks on the forum in Alaska and beyond that don't heat during the winter. The important thing is to have good ventilation in your coop, but to avoid drafts.

Hello and Welcome to BYC! Sounds like your girls settled right into their new home. X2 chickens are quite cold tolerant as long as they have a draft free area to roost.
