Hi all, my name is Debbie and I make things (hence Debbiemade!).
I am a super keen (obsessed) organic gardener and chicken keeper and love being in my garden with my hens more than literally anything
. This has always been a hobby of mine (I asked for chickens for my 4th birthday and my love affair started) but became so much more when I had to leave my beloved job as the head teacher of a small school for young people with behavioural problems due to poor health (I have hypermobility syndrome, which, in a nutshell means daily chronic pain and a whole host of other nonsense!!). All at once the produce from the garden and the chickens weren't a hobby any more they were an essential part of stretching the money out and keeping the mortgage paid.
I have 3 hens currently, a Speckledy and two Sussex Stars who are gorgeous, funny and as food obsessed as all chickens.
When it is too cold to garden and my hands are working I make crafts, particularly crochet, sewing and embroidery.
I found backyardchickens when looking for an answer about something poultry related (I have no idea what, cause I have looked at so much on here) and decided it was high time I joined. So here I am.
