I've been lurking on BackYardChickens.com for a few months, but just joined about five minutes ago. I LOVE this site, and all the great people and information on it. I am also brand new to owning chickens. I have 21 gals (I call them "Kell's Belles").. they are "retired" from an organic egg farm in my area. I'm told they're about one year old, but I don't even know what kind they are! But I do know I love having them around. I'm looking forward to learning so much more on this site

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! How lovely of you to take some retired hens in. From your picture they look like red sex link hens they are a hybrid that are bred for optimum egg production. I'm over in the UK and they are called warrens here. They have many names that they go under depending where you purchase them from. I started my chicken journey with 2 of these called Amy and Penny. They were excellent layers, friendly and a great starter bird.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your gals in the future. Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy your new flock and BYC :frow

I agree with @Yorkshire coop , your girls look like Red Sex Links. We have 3 in our mixed flock and they are our best layers, plus full of personality and very entertaining.

There is a lot of information here and some very helpful members so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Nice to have you and your Belles join us!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. :o) I agree with Yorkshire coop and NorthFlChick; your chickens are Red Sex Link pullets which are laying machines. You should get loads of large brown eggs from those girls. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.
