I am reading articles from BC for long time before I collected enough information about raising my own chickens. My Mom was poultry raiser and breeder including of course Grandma. They had all kind of fowl including Geese, Ducks Turkeys and of course chickens. So I get 13 weeks ago one day old Babies Barred rocks, Orpingtons and red Rod Islands. First couple weeks they had ceramic heaters 150 Watt each and I will recommend them to everyone, because they are less fire hazard than heating bulbs, and ceramic heaters are not emitting harmful light which can cause retinal degeneration in young chicks.Chickens are all in excellent health and in couple days they will get moved to the brand new coop. I am happy to join the BC Forum, because they are many great reviews and experiences with the Members, which I really enjoy to read.So as you see, our chicks have been raised with tons of love and care. Only one issue we had was with red Rod Island chick. She get constipated couple times, and introduction of Fowl probiotics she get her digestion improved, especially when I added chick grit to their diet at age of 6 weeks.
Heavy rain in Kansas kept our coop project slow down, but it is almost finished and I will be glad to post construction photos with details if asked for.
So happy to be here at BC Forum.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Good luck with your flock. They are little cuties.
Have you ever heard of a brooder plate or MHP? They trump the ceramic bulbs. The only thing that trumps a brooder plate/MHP is a broody hen.
Yes after a three weeks we received one with adjustable height, but I did not like not to be able to see my chicks beneath it. With temperature regulator and plastic dome which disable chicks from the roosting on the top of plate it is great product.I am saving it for the next chicks.
