Hello all!
Just a short intro...
Married for 28 years next January, no kids except for 2 dogs (Izzy and Sophie) and 3 cats (Pearle, Sweetie, and Spot).
I was raised on a farm until I was 10, but that was MANY years ago, so I'm having to basically re-learn everything I "thought" I remembered...KWIM?
We live on 30 acres that we have been slowly, yet strategically, clearing since 2000. My excuses for taking so long are 1)we both work 40+ hours a week, 2)we both work 40+ hours a week and are tired, and 3)we both work 40+ hours a week and are so tired because we're not spring chickens anymore (ha!), so take your pick of the three.
We will begin building our hen house over the next couple of weekends and then I have to see if we can get chicks this late in the year (remember, it has been a loooong time since my farming days).
I'm not interested in raising them for meat...just eggs. There was a time when it wouldn't have bothered me in the least to slaughter what I've raised, but as I've gotten older, I've went all soft-hearted and just don't think I'll be able to bring myself to do it anymore, so I'll continue buying my chicken at the grocers. It may sound silly, but it is what it is.
Anyway, I'm glad to have found this forum and hope to get to know you!
Sherry
