Hi all-
My sister-in-law turned me on to this forum and I have to say it is a big part of the excitement that made me decide to get chickens, though I don't have them yet.

I have spent a total of 4 days over the past week and a half building a coop - my cousin was here for the first two days and she was a HUGE help. It's mostly done, I just need to make the chicken door and dig postholes to put up the run. Oh, and paint, but maybe that will never get done!

The coop took planning because it gets so hot here and I wanted to have enough ventilation. I definitely got a LOT of inspiration from the coop pages here. I'll put up some pictures when I get a chance.

Also I'm in graduate school so it's fun to work on a project that I know I'll actually finish!

Anyways, I'm thinking of starting with 3-4 hens until my friend here hatches some more this spring... on some level it's about instant gratification (=eggs!) having just worked so hard on the coop.

But I'm sure I'll be back with more questions as soon as I get my hands on the birds!
