We have 5 Barred Rock chickens, started with 6 in February 2012. We lost on to the heat about a month ago. I was googling for help and advice when I found Backyard Chickens. I am very grateful for all the information here. These chickens are our "pets with a purpose," they amuse us daily and give us wonderful eggs.
My husband and I have a terrier type dog. but no other pets, he is afraid of the chickens :-D That is probably because he is curious and has poked his nose through the fence where the chickens are: he got pecked for his curiosity several times. He stays away from them now, even when they are loose in the yard.
