Hello, from sunny Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

I live in an inner-city suburb and my husband and I have just decided to get chooks.

We start our chook adventure on the weekend by clearing space in our yard which means a far bit of hard work on our part but so worth it. We have a coop in mind which is made by a local supplier and then the following we'll take our kids along to choose some point of lay hens. Our plan is to get 3 point of lay and rescue 2 battery hens who are heading to the cull. I'm sure I'll be on here with lots of questions..... but for now it's clearing space for our girls.

Hi from sunny California! Glad you can join us! I'd love to visit Australia one day. It's on my bucket list. We just got our chicks yesterday and are working on a coop and run too. Have fun with your project!

Welcome, Anastacia.

Maybe you use different terms in Australia, the land of the great Australorp, than we do in the United States, but what are point of lay hens? Or maybe I am just am not familiar with that term.

Thank you.

I've just learn't about Point of Lay myself, doing my research on what to get. Point of Lay means buying hens that are ready to lay. Choices offered are day old chicks or Point of Lay hens. We are impatient and want eggs now! We'll go down the chick route later.

Thanks for the welcome.
