Hi Cara,

I went to Egg Plant in St. Paul to ask all kinds of dumb questions and they recommended breeds that are supposed to be good in the cold, good layers and still good pets (not aggressive). My daughter and I couldn't decide on 1 breed and so we got one each of these: Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, Silver Laced Wyandotte and a Black Australorp.

What breeds do you have? Have you had them long?

Only 1 1/2 days to go before your new little babies arrive - woohoo! We picked up our chicks from a guy in Mendota Heights on March 17th & they were 5 days old so still fuzzy & completely loveable! We have 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks & 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes. All 4 are super friendly & extremely nosey! They want to know what is going on all the time. I really wanted 2 Buff Orps but he was already sold out by the time we got there & my impatient self just couldn't wait! I've never heard of Egg Plant - just googled it & will definitely be making a trip there! You & your daughter are going to have a BLAST!

Hey, I just had a thought. It's going to take me about a half hour to get home with those day old chicks. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the car ride?
