I've been on the site a few times, decided to join last night and figured I'd introduce myself.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Pretty new to the whole chicken thing. When I was in 4-H as a kid I had a little chick, more as a pet than anything. This past fall my daughter joined and was given a beautiful buff orpington that we keep at a communal coop at a local park. We got hooked and 3 weeks ago got our own chicks to keep at home. They're inside right now but my husband is almost done with the coop!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Well, we have the buff up at the coop and here at home we have another buff, a rhode island red, an americauna, and a golden laced wyandotte.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Whoops! Answered that already!
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Found out about the site from a friend who started with her chickens last year.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Busy with the chickens now, but other interests are running, knitting, music, reading, and cooking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We live in San Jose, Ca. I am mom to 3 beautiful girls - 2 grown and 1 10yrs old. My husband is a gardener so even when home he spends a lot of time making our yard beautiful. Built our awesome coop from just a picture! I run a co-op preschool in my home - going on 25 years now and my preschoolers are loving the chickens! My 10 yr. old is really the animal lover. She has a hamster, a fish, and now the girls. Our bunny of 10 1/2 years recently passed away to we'll be getting a new 1, or maybe 2, shortly. I'm looking forward to learning lots of things on this forum!
