Hi All. I have been lurking here for the past couple months and have decided I better join. My Husband is now a chicken lover so we are hooked and in for some fun with our small backyard flock.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I grew up with chickens but never really considered kepping chickens as an adult until my Husband saw my friend's facebook post about her chicks and asked why can't we have chicken too? So on the 1st of April I brought home some chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? At the momment we have 6 chickens, but we are afraid we have a rooster or two and we can't have roosters :(

(3) What breeds do you have? 1 - black sex link, 2 - red sex links, 2 - buff orpingtons, and 1 - polish ( possible rooster ).

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? We happened accross this site when looking for coops. We still don't have our coop built. LOL.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? My Hobbies are anything to do with my kids, jewelry making, and I am a small hobby breeder of Labrador Retrievers.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I are a well blended family I have three sons and My husband has a daughter. In addition to our Chickens and Labradors, we have a small mix breed we call a Mexican Terrorist, Tinker, is predominantly Chihuahua and Jack Russel Terrior. We also have a tropical tank with Platies, a Ghorami, and Corey Cats. I work full time for CANIDAE Pet Food and My husband is in Car Sales. All in all we are a very busy animal loving family.
We are so very blessed to live in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern Ca. So we get to enjoy snow in the winter and enjoy a nice warm summer too. Hopefully soon we will have our coop completed and our chickens can move into a more permanent space to call home.

I am looking forward to learning more about our girls and we have already begun to apply some fun things we have learned from BYC to our small flock already.

Thanks,
Julie :)

I used to breed and show Cockers, many years ago. Lots of dog breeders on here too. Some people say you can determine sex with the polish crested birds - the male tends to have wild, rock star crests while the female has a rounded crest. You might give that a try.

Thank you for your friendly welcome. :) My Husband, Steve, and I are looking forward to learning from you all and sharing our stories of our girls. The kids are so excited to find our first eggs even though we a few months off.
