I am a new chicken mom and I am looking for friends, advice, and anything I can learn about chickens. I have 9 little Golden Comet pullets (I used to have 10 but lost one last night - long story) that I got from Tractor Supply.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist here in IA, and I have a small family of four. There’s me, my son, his wife, and their friend that live with me in a pretty big house. We all get along well and believe that there is safety in numbers. We are flock, I guess.

We also have a bit of a menagerie with our pets. I have a Basset Beagel cross named Thor, who I rescued from the Animal Rescue League, and my kids have three cats that were also rescues. I also have a parakeet named Chatter who can be pretty loquacious in her own right.

In my spare time I make jewelry, and do a little furniture refinishing. Right now my focus is taking old end tables and coffee tables that I get for 20.00 or less and remaking them into dog/cat furniture. It is exciting to take something that someone is going to throw out and make it into something that is unique and useful. I am in the process of making a bed for Thor out of a gnarly old coffee table that a friend gave me. I will post pictures if anyone is interested.

I have heard that if one has a long post it is customary to post a picture of a potato at the end. I think I will post a picture of Thor. He is much prettier.

G'Day from down under Curlygael :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

Thor is adorable! If you would like to share more Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
