We just got our first chickens the other day. We bought some 9-11 month old chickens from a friend. It was a long time getting it all set up but we have to say we love it. Two days in and we already have 8 eggs. I do have a question though? I got what I understand to be a fairy egg from one of my wynadots. I have read through the site and understand the general reasons for this. My question is in this chickens case I think she may have been the runt so to speak. At the house she came from it was a bit crowded and I think she was picked on a bit (pecked). She is missing a bunch of tail feathers, etc. If she had trouble getting all her nutrition would that be a cause of the tiny egg? Everyone has plenty of space now and they all are getting the nessessary nutrition. Thanks for any help. This sight is great and I'm happy to be part of the back yard chicken club. Baa- Gock!

My 3 year old is stoked every time we've gotten to go out and collect eggs its a great thing for her and I love sharing that experience with her.

Hey Pete! Welcome to BYC. When you have time, come over and check out our Colorado Thread. Lots of great Colorado folks there who can give local support to your efforts. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/68894/colorado/13510#post_10835261

The tiny egg is probably because she is a newly laying pullet. The eggs will get larger with time. And the flock issues will usually sort themselves out soon.
