Hi, chicken lovers! I've been exploring BackYardChickens.com for months and months, and I'm finally joining y'all!
I'm new to chickens. After a very long time I finally convinced my better half that we needed hens. We built a "Fort Knox" coop/run and bought our first little ones in April (2011). I bought and traded until I was happy with our present mix - 12 hens (all named, so no crockpot in their future) - two Ameraucana, one Barnevelder, three Coronation Sussex, two Copper Maran, two RIR, one Buff Orp and one Silver Laced Wyandotte.
I'm not ashamed to say that I'm crazy in love with these ladies. I've never been around birds (not even parakeets), and it's been a blast for me and the hubby - he's loving them, too.
I'm retired and I garden, volunteer, have lunch with friends, crochet, read and play with our five grandkids.
