Hi, we just started with raising chickens for eggs a few weeks ago. We currently have six (3 Welsummers and 3 Easter Eggers) The only one with a real name so far is Blondie, and she's a real troublemaker. The others will be named as I get to know them better.
They were hatched on May 10th. We just put them out in the backyard coop last week but they refuse to go in it, most nights. I picked up a few tips from another thread that I will try. (thanks) I haven't been too concerned with predators, most of ours are overhead and I have netting over the run. They usually sleep under the coop at night. We've been having a heatwave so I haven't the heart to keep them locked up in their coop all day for fear it will get too hot.
I caught "Wally" our resident groundhog in the run this morning. (also read a thread about tips to deter him too. Thanks!)
I didn't realize how much fun keeping chickens is. i was expecting more work but so far (minus the coop problems) it's been a lot of fun.
