we're somewhat new to chickens. my parents have barred rocks and silver laced wyandottes. we just bought a new house 'out in the country', so naturally we decided to get chickens. last week we picked up two ameraucaunas (i believe they're silver, but i'm not 100%). we also have two cochin bantams that my parents are tending to until they come in may to build our coop. one is definitely a buff. the other is possibly a mottled, maybe a black.

mostly these are pets for our two girls (5 and 3) as well as education and of course, the eggs (we're thinking about pickling the bantam eggs).

we live in rural south georgia and have 3 cats, a dog, two leopard geckos, a kingsnake and at the moment (1 lost milk snake, who we hope will turn up soon).

thanks! we're /really/ hoping we find him too. my 3 year old let him out (my fault though) on march 27th. still no luck coaxing him out with food and water.

i see we have a lot in common. i homeschool my girls too, and eventually i plan on getting australorps.

Snakes are little escape artists aren't they? We had a boa who squeezed in a hole in the wall of my sis's closet and lived there for 6 months before she got hungry enough for me to coax her out into a bucket trap.
