Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited that I found you. I have been raising chickens since March 2008. I started off with eight, and now I am down too, two Silver laced hens, (Miss Byran, and Miss Abbott) one buff hen, (Shelly) and two roosters. One is a bantam, the other is a handsome Rhode Island red named Marty. I keep them separated. This spring I would like to get two bantam hens for my little guy named Meatball. (My three year old grandson named him).

My first question to all of you is. My two roosters have black spots on there crowns. I am thinking this is frost bite. Last night I put some medicine on both.
What do you think?

Hello and welcome to BYC

If it is frost bite the best thing to do is to warm your coop a fraction. Not too much as too much heat in there will do more harm than good. Just insulate it well and make sure it's well ventilated, but not draughty and try and keep it as dry as possible.

Welcome to BYC. Frozen points on the roosters' combs would indicate frostbite. Black specks or spots might more likely be a result of pecking/fighting.

I did see that on my longhorn Emmett when she was alive, and it was from the rooster Marty. but my bahtam rooster is by himself, so that would not be it. but thank you just the same :)
