First off, I LOVE this board. I'm becoming addicted very fast.
I'm a soon-to-be first time chicken owner, my significant other's daughter and I ordered a small batch of day old EE and brown layers and a single Blue Silkie that is destined to become her indoor chicken. They are scheduled to arrive March 1st.
So far, tons of information has been gleaned and the "stink eye" thread kept me laughing all day long yesterday. I'm really enjoying everyone's sense of humor. I think I'll fit in very well here.
Anyway, this first batch will most likely reside at her house, and I'm already picking out the perfect location/design for my mid-sized coop for my house. I've already got a small farm started (two pb pigs, a horse ...) so why not chickens. They are cute little critters.
I'm undecided as to what purpose they'll serve, I think mostly companionship and beauty are my main incentives right now, and once I get some experience, I'm sure I'll adjust the flock for eggs, etc ... I have to say, I'm VERY intrigued with the Sumatras, Phoenix, Mille Fluers and Sebrights at this point.
Anyway, would love to visit some local coops if anyone is in the area.
Thanks for providing this great site!
