I'm new to chickens. We started out 2 months ago with 6 chickens and then a month ago had a tragedy occur that left us with 3. We went out and got 3 more pullets. It was a rollercoaster ride with the new chicks as by the 3rd day of having them, my welummer started showing signs of respiratory problems. I kept her with me constantly, fed her and watered her by hand and gave her some ionic silver and some durastat in her water and she reovered beautifully and none of the other chicks ever had any respiratory issues. But then my blue laced red wyandotte had gotten a piece of chick feed stuck near her vent and was able to get her head back there and peck herself raw. I had to put some salve on her butt for a week, but it healed up nicely.
It doesn't stop there... Now I'm pretty sure my blue laced is a roo. The comb is pretty pronouced at only 4 weeks. I'm going to ask some of the Wyandotte owners what they think.
My current chicken line up is:
Chubs the Amber White
Shadow the black sexlink
Cheekie the RIR
Oreo the Barred Rock
Tookie the Blue laced red wyandotte
Brownie the Welsummer
Hope everyone's staying cool and having a wonderful summer with their peeps!
