My name is David and I like to raise chickens. I started out with chickens 4 years ago in Washington. My wife thought I was nuts. We both enjoy it now. We are down to 7 hens.
We tried meat chickens, but didn't really enjoy the whole process. We raised Pioneers and Cornish Cross from Murry McMurry. They got big and we butchered most of them. I'm glad for the knowledge and skills we learned in the process, but we likely won't do it again.
We just added 33 chicks to our flock. There are 11 breeds among them. Our girls show for 4H and I wanted to try some breeds that I can't get locally from our feed store. Some were bought locally, some online. Here is the list of breeds:
Lakenvelders
Buff Rocks
Partridge Rocks
Easter Eggers
Cuckoo Marans
Egyptian Fayoumis
Rose Comb Brown Leghorns
Black Sumatras
Buff Orpingtons
Yellow Sexlinks
White Giant
We will likely sell some of them as they get older. It depends on how much we like each of the breeds. Some were bought for show and some for egg production. The Sumatras were given to us in the online order, we didn't order them. The Fayoumi are not recognized by the APA, so I may end up selling them. I didn't realize that when I ordered them...
To sum it up, we like chickens.
