This is my very first post on this forum and I'm thrilled to have found this place.

On Saturday we went to a hatchery in Iowa (about 60 miles from my house) and I bought 6 straight run Araucana chicks. I'm not really wanting any roosters and don't have a plan yet, if I've got any roosters in the bunch! I'm going back this week if she has any sex-link pullet chicks left, that haven't been spoken for, from her Tuesday hatching.

These are my first chicks since 1994 (I had to get rid of my chickens and farm when my DH passed away in 1995.) I live in a housing addition in a small village. When I called our village clerk to inquire about village ordinances and if there were any against having chickens in my neighborhood, he didn't seem to think it was a problem unless the neighbors complain. I have sort of stuck up neighbors and they complain about everything. So I just can't have roosters...and probably only a few quiet hens that I'll have to keep contained.

I am so excited to be back in the "farm biz" and just can't wait until I can get eggs and do chores and all that jazz!

I just wanted to say hi and I also need to know if anyone knows of any other hatcheries in Eastern Iowa. The one we went to was Schlecht's in Miles Iowa...they are great but I'd like to expand my choices if possible!

Anyway, it's great to be here and I'm sure I'll learn and re-learn so much about chickens!!

Welcome, Gindee! I live in a small town, and have 4 chickens. Totally spoiled, but good eggs! I just started a little under a year ago, and I am hooked! They are great companions when I am out in the yard, but aren't so fussy that I can't spend time doing all the other things I enjoy.

Again, Welcome!
