Hi! My name is Gina. I'm a 34 year old stay at home mom. I have three crazy children as well as 5 chickens a duck and 4 dogs.
One day last April my husband came home with 10 tiny chicks. I was surprised to say the least! After a few fox attacks, and an owl attack we were left with 5 hens I'm not completely sure what breed they are, they are awesome layers and so gentle. I also have a 6 month old female Pekin Duck named quackers. She was part of a pair but her sister was killed by an owl. So she now lives with the chickens.
My kids and I love our birds , we also like to grow a lot of fruit and vegetables. When my son starts pre k this year I will be going back to school for veterinary medicine!
Nice to be here and I really look forward to everything that I will learn here!

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear about your predator attacks, they sure can be a pain and quite upsetting when you lose your birds. I'm sure lots of members will be able to help you identify your birds in the link left for you above. Wishing you the very best of luck in the future with your animals.

Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

thanks for the warm welcome! Yes the predators around my way are plentiful! Experience is the best teacher!

Welcome to BYC, Gina. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm sorry about the loss of Quacker's sister. It's always sad to lose one of our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your Veterinary Medicine degree.

Welcome to the BYC Flock! We are glad you joined us!

If you would like to know what breeds your chickens are, try posting some pictures on the "what breed and gender" thread. There are lots of great people on here that will be able to help.

Congrats on going to vet school! What a great example you will set for your kids!
