Hi all!

I'm Mike from Brisbane, Australia and I'm looking forward to learning more about backyard chickens and contributing to the forum :)

We have two lovely girls so far and would like to expand our flock to 4-5 chickens once we get the hang of things.

Here's some pic's of our homemade coop and enclosure made from 90% recycled materials from hard-rubbish days and building site skip bins (with permission):

G'day Mike, very glad to meet you. BYC has a large Aussie community and a dandy thread called "Australia, six state and one funny little island." Have you visited the BYC Learning Center? It is a wonderful place to start a poultry education

I'm sure you have varied predators that we don't have in the states. But I would suggest you replace the flimsy poultry wire or back it with 1/2" hardware cloth. It costs more but, lasts much longer and is quite a bit stronger than chicken wire.

Hope you enjoy Backyard chickens as much as we do.

Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!

Hi Mike,

You did a nice job on your coop! Drumstick diva is right about the hardware cloth, better to spend money on that than having to replace your birds if something gets to them. There is a lot of information available here and a lot of friendly, helpful members so make yourself at home and always feel free to ask questions or contribute to the forums.

Thanks for joining us and sharing your pictures!

Thanks guys for all your welcome messages and advice! Can't wait to make improvements and get a few more girls on board :)

Nice to hear there are so many other members local, the BYC community support is going to be wonderful!

Wow @hnichols 24 chickens is impressive!
