After ten years of wanting chickens, my family and I purchased 6 chicks this spring: 4 Whiting True Green and two Black Sexlinks. We found our first pullet eggs last week. Being new to raising chickens, I had many questions. This community has been a lifesaver!

I have always been an avid vegetable gardener, and my kiddos love bringing the chickens “treats” from our garden (cutworms, hornworms, beetles, overripe fruit, etc.). The kids were ecstatic to find the first eggs! I love watching them learn from these first-hand experiences.

Though I wanted to free-range our ladies, we have too many predators in our area to make that possible (foxes, coyotes, opossums, hawks, etc.). We had to go with a fully-enclosed run, though I do let them out occasionally if I am going to be in the area.

So excited to be part of this community!
