Hi from Missouri

Hi, thanks! I mostly have barnyard mutts that lay various shades of green eggs. I hear Cackle hatchery sends out a chick truck that makes a stop in the MFA here one day a year, so I may pick up some new breeds from them this year.
I have a few mutts too lol! But sadly no Olive egger hens...tried twice to get one and got a roo both those times ugh! That is super cool how Cackle sends a "chick truck" LOL! That's like my dream to drive one of those things!!

Hi, welcome to the forum! Glad you joined!!

On mixing Chickens and Turkeys. Blackhead is a disease that can affect chickens. Once a flock is infected they are carriers. Most chickens that get Blackhead don't die but they are less thrifty.

On the other hand, Blackhead is extremely fatal to Turkeys. If you introduce turkeys to a flock of chickens that are carriers of blackhead then the turkeys will probably die.

The problem is not mixing turkeys and chickens. The problem is mixing turkeys with chickens that have blackhead. You've seen several posts where mixing chickens and turkeys was not a problem. Blackhead was not in that flock. I've raised turkeys with my chickens without a problem.

It's like going to visit friends or relatives. If they have an infectious disease then you have a chance of getting that disease. If they don't have that disease you won't get it from visiting.

Good luck and once again :frow
