Hi from Johnson City TN. I've wanted chickens for a very long time and a stay at an airB&B on a working farm finally convinced my husband. We have 6 chicks that range from 4 weeks to a few days old. Right now, they are all living in my office. :)

We know we have a 2 Ameraucanas (a lavender and a TBD) and a Barred Rock. One more likely an Australorp. We had a tiny EE but she didn't live past her 2nd day. I sent my husband to fetch a Black Marans and a Barnevelder today, but I think I got a Cuckoo Marans and not the Barnevelder. I truly have no idea what he brought home. They are cute but it's a lot of black and white chicks!!! We are looking forward to eggs and seeing all their personalities.

Otherwise, we enjoy concerts and hanging out with friends and family. I confirmed during covid that I'm really okay being a homebody as long as I can eat out! My husband and I have 4 kids between us, 24, 16, 15, and 13 - 3 boys and a girl. We also have 4 cats currently - 2 of mine and 2 that were my mom's before she passed. I work full time for a global company and also took over ownership of my mom's business. It's a lot right now and the chicks are a nice break for me.

Stumbled upon this site in my never ending "googling." The info here has been so very helpful so far. Glad to be here!

So, a stay at an Airbnb convinced your husband to get chickens? Is there ANY chance YOU booked that place on purpose? Just wondering :) ? In any case, congrats on getting chicks, including the "mystery" babies your husband brought home.

Sounds like you really have your hands (and your office!) full right now. Hope the chicks provide enough stress relief to lighten your days.

Welcome to BYC! Hope this group will continue to be helpful to you as your babies grow up!

:frow Welcome from New Orleans. I am glad you got your chicks and decided to join us. Have you built your coop and/or run yet? There are some great articles on coop building. Just remember to build your coop 2 to 3 times the size you need now as you will end with more chickens as time goes on. As you read, you will find most everyone ends up with more chickens than they intended to have.
