We have adopted two red shaver hens who have to find a new home after friend's house badly damaged in the earthquakes we had in our city Christchurch in February last year. Looking forward to learn how to care for these girls

Haere Mai MrsMoore, I'm sending you greetings from Oregon. I lived in the beautiful city of Christchurch in the early 80's and loved it. I read the NZ Herald daily and always hope the best for chch. It was so nice of you to offer to take care of "the girls". Best of luck.

Thank you to everyones warm welcomes! We are loving having hens and look forward to learning all about them and doing "chook talk".
To M-I Chicken - Was lovely to see the Maori greeting all the way from your neck of the woods! I'm glad you loved living in Christchurch - earthquakes and zillions of aftershocks later, it is still a great city to live, and as we live near the sea, wouldn't trade it (even though there is a fault like out to sea from us!). We have a 800m back yard for the girls to free range in, along with our wee dog and cat, for all the animals (under supervision!) to share, with a 10 minute walk to the beach. They have a saying here in Christchurch after the EQs - Kia Kaha, which means stand strong. And that's what we are all doing :)

MrsMoore. Your land sounds great for the chocks, and wee dog and cat : )

My cousin lost his place there during the big one this year. I had a shop a million years ago on Colombo Street. The OLD shop was torn down some years ago, but the devastation in that area was heartbreaking. I lived in Riccarton... Ok, I have to stop, I miss chch every day. So glad to know that you live there and near the beach. You are now in my thoughts. Kia Kaha
