(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We moved to Pittsburg about 18 months ago and after completely remodeling our home, have decided that we would like to take advantage of having a place where we can have a garden, chickens, etc. So we've ordered 6 chicks from the local feed store and they are to arrive the first part of March.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? As I said above, we ordered six but I'm thinking about adding to that if they haven't put the order in yet.

(3) What breeds do you have? I ordered 3 Buff Orpington and 3 Plymouth Rock and would like to add some Rhode Island Reds to that...guess we'll see.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? A friend knew I was considering chickens and stumbled onto this site...I've already spent a lot of time reading the info provided and have thoroughly enjoyed it, learning much!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I'm an all-round animal lover and also love being out in God's creation...also spend most of my time serving Him in various ways.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I raised two boys and when the youngest went off to college, we decided to downsize...that would be in house size only because we have more land than we ever have. My oldest son is married and he and his wife are stationed at the Atsugi Naval base in Japan. My youngest will graduate in May from North Central Kansas Tech College. We are greatly loved by 2 adorable little terrier mix dogs (or as I lovingly refer to them as my "terrors"), one cat of 16 years and a ferret (one of those kid pets that doesn't leave home when they do). We just recently lost our beloved Golden Retriever of 11 years. My husband is a retired postal carrier and I am our church's secretary/janitor/whatever-needs-done person.

I'm really looking forward to learning all I can about chickens as I want to take really good care of them...thanks for a great website!
