I'm sorry, I didn't see this intro thread, so I just jumped in somewhere else on the forum. Better late than never, Howdy DO!
My husband and I have gone crazy. We had a nice home-made coop and 12 hens, like 10 years ago!! it was our own crazy design, and of course it grew and grew like they all do.
I got tired of the morning cluckfest after many years, and we slowly "thinned the herd". Now there is nothing left of it in our backyard and suddenly this summer, WE MISS OUR CHICKENS! And we really miss the eggs too, of course.
Well this time we're gonna have less space to use, and I'm just praying that the neighbors are as nice about it as they were last time. We'll keep it down to just 2 or 3, and I have my eye on the side of the yard that is dog-free, part shade part sun. The only trouble is, there's a deck there, a small one we don't use - I hate sun! So this time we are going to get really excited and start taking boards off the deck until the creative juices start flowing.
THANK GOODNESS I have found you folks! (sorry, yelling, but I'm excited). We had no help before, no photos, only hubby's memories of his childhood. Somehow the hens all survived and the coop got cleaned, but I never mastered keeping that dratted water clean. And all those rabbit waterers leaked like crazy for us - drove us nuts.
So I am busy looking at all of your photos, reading your stories, trying to make fewer mistakes this time, and I hope I can keep it cleaner more easily with better planning. Thank you for being here!! Hopefully someday I can dig up some of the old photos and post links for you to see...but I think we'll do better this time.
