Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself and say I'm already in love with this forum! I don't have any chicks yet but I'm in the planning stages of building a coop and then anxious to get my peeps once that's completed. At what age are the chicks able to be moved to a coop?

I'm interested in getting Buff Orpingtons and Gold Laced Wyandottes, as well as a few ducks. Can anyone tell me if ducks can be housed in the same coop with chickens? I don't know much about ducks but they are just too cute to resist!

BackYardChickens.com came to me via Google when I began researching raising chickens.

My hobbies are anything that takes me outside, including geocaching, hiking, kayaking, camping or just messin' around. I also enjoy airbrushing and watercolor painting as well as woodworking. There just isn't enough hours in a day!

I'm single and live with one female Cocker Spaniel and two spoiled rotten cats.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. If you can provide a heat lamp on them in the coop, you could put them out there. Just make a draft shield for them and make sure the temp starts at 90-95 degrees.

from Tennessee! You can move them to the coop whenever as long as you have adequate heat for them until they are old enough to be without extra heat at 8 weeks old.
