I raised 1 chick before when I was a teenager. I took it away from my baby cousins, some one had been handing out chicks to kids for easter. 
But It was a fun experience to raise it. It was just about to start laying when stray dogs got to it. Sad day but Im older and ready to raise chickens again. Will be starting on a coop and brooder after this weekend 
Coop will be rough as hell im sure, itll be me and my mother building it with all the scrap wood laying around our 27 acres. My main worry is predators of course, we have foxes, raccoons, possums, stray wild dogs, coyotes, owls and hawks ... ugh. Wish us luck!!
