(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
First started keeping chickens 6 October 2008. Before that, many moons ago, helped my Gran with her farmyard flock for a number of years.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have five.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Black Rock – a first cross between Rhode Island Red and the Barred Plymouth Rock only obtainable from a single hatchery in Scotland, UK. I know the parent birds were brought over direct from Arbor Acres in the States some time back in the 60s (I believe); I think USA keepers know them as Arbor Acres Blacks? What a fantastic bird – but flighty, not exactly a pet hen. They are the only birds I have kept and despite quite serious illness they have recovered and gone forward. I am impressed by them. When I compare my Black Rocks to a neighbours 'brown' hybrid layers, in the same time period she has had three of those die I have one Black Rock who now seems to have permanently stopped laying but from what I understand of these birds' history, this is an unusual event.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Another website

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I grow vegetables and try to be self-reliant and sustainable. Note: 'try'! In all I have about 1/10th acre to garden – not much.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I usually have a cat, but don't have one just now.
